Amazing officiant
Pat made our service so beautiful & elegant. The words she used really touched the guests. Afterward many of them told us how moved they were. She was always available & answered any questions we had. Would recommend to any couple , including those of the LGBTQ community . Thank you so very much Pat.

Kelly · married on 09/30/2018
Pat was our officiant for our wedding at Maymont Italian Garden this past weekend. My husband and I loved working with her. She is one of the sweetest people we have ever met. She was very professional throughout the entire process and was willing to meet with us a few weeks before the ceremony to review how the ceremony was going to go. Her beautiful words are something we will always remember. Thank you Pat for all your kindness and making our day so special!

Planning a Wedding on a Budget

image115

Currently, the average cost of a wedding is more than $20,000, making it one of the most expensive life events. In fact, it’s more expensive than the cost of most births (even without insurance), most first cars, home down payments, and funerals. For many students who receive scholarships, even four years of college can cost less than a one-day wedding!

Remind Yourself What's Truly Important

I Asked a Bunch of Dumb Questions About Honeymoons So You Don't Have To

image117

Ah, the honeymoon. This is probably the wedding event brides and grooms look forward to the most, you know, after walking down the aisle. But it's not as simple as saying "I do" and hopping on a plane — there happens to be a lot of exhaustive planning involved. So, I enlisted two people who know way more than you about travel: Renee Meyer, founder of Unforgettable Honeymoons (basically an expert travel agency just for deal-seeking honeymooners), and Marsha-Ann Brown, Sandals Resorts' director of romance (yes, that's a real job title), to answer all your burning questions about the once-in-a-lifetime trip you're about to take.

The Smile Maker

image121

 How Smiles Work

Laughter Is The Best Medicine
Facts About Smiling
It costs nothing, but creates much.
It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give.
It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None are so rich they can get along without it, and none so poor but are richer for its benefits.
It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in a business, and is the countersign of friends.
It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and Nature’s best antidote for trouble.
It cannot be bought, bagged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is no earthly good to anybody till it is given away.
Nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.

The Wing Man

image122

Origin

The term originated in combat aviation in various international military aviation communities shortly before and after the advent of fighter jets. Pilots flying in formation, especially when in combat training or in actual aerial combat, refer to the pilot immediately next to them (traditionally on their right, sometimes on either side) as their "wingman" (i.e. the man on their wing). In actual aerial combat pilots are often trained to attack and defend in pairs watching out for each other, thereby making the term even more clearly demonstrated. The term is also very commonly used in combat aviation on longer range aviation patrols which are often carried out by only two fighter planes, sometimes manned by only two pilots depending on the type of aircraft. On these two plane patrols (Air Force) or "watches" (Naval Aviators flying protective patterns around surface vessels on timed intervals) referring to the pilot that an aviator is teamed with on patrol as their "wingman" is very common.[citation needed]

The Man Behind The Curtain

image123

A person in power who operates in secret, posing behind a facade or puppet. Their intentions may be nefarious or may be good.

The term derives from the Wizard of Oz, in which the "wizard" is eventually revealed to be an old man behind a curtain projecting a terrifying persona through a Tesla-esque smokescreen.

Edith Bolling Galt Wilson is an example of a man behind the curtain. Her husband, President Woodrow Wilson, had a stroke during his second term. During that time, Edith effectively ran the Executive branch in secret, carrying "messages" from her husband's bedside that were actually her own orders. By all accounts, she was a decent president.

Another example is James Baker III, who served as President Reagan's Secretary of State (1981-84) and of the Treasury (1984-89). It is widely speculated that President Reagan suffered from nuerodegeneration brought on by his old age during his second term. During that time James Baker effectively ran the country as if he were Reagan.

During the Cold War, many communist states were "ruled" by shadow governments under the thumb of the USSR. In such cases (like Cuba, for example), Moscow was the man behind the curtain and the curtain was the shadow government.

Synonyms include: secret boss, puppet master, brains of the outfit.

While the Beatles were great in their own right, their producer, George Martin, was the man behind the curtain and was responsible for much of the band's success.
